Yes, I assumed that you were black from your first comment. I’m not sure if you read the entire piece, but the question I asked in the headline, I attempted to answer in the essay. And I made a similar point to the one you made in the first sentence of your first comment, only I used other examples. In a nutshell, other music spoke to black American audiences more than Marley. Of course, this is a generalization and there are naturally exceptions, but I do think patterns are always worth exploring.
