Poor White People

The world is burning, and they have to battle yet another “pandemic.”

History — she’s always repeating. When #MeToo rolled around and started holding straight men to higher standards, backlash, courtesy of the straight men finally being held to higher standards, ensued, as they contorted reality in order to cast themselves as victims of shifting public opinion. In short, they were no longer controlling the narrative and it sucked. When “BlackLivesMatter” reemerged last year after the murder of George Floyd and started holding White people to higher standards, the backlash was even more swift.

Now, among White people with a skewed idea of what constitutes real suffering, there’s a “pandemic of anti-White negativity,” which is how one misguided Medium article recently put it. As the COVID-19 death toll continues to rise and unarmed Black people continue to be slaughtered by police, this supposed pandemic is gaining traction. The fallout: White people must suffer the unthinkable cruelty of reading articles by Black writers who excoriate racist White people without taking the time to point out that not all White people are racist.

To some Black people, all Whites are guilty, and whether you agree or disagree with that overarching sentiment, the essence of all their arguments is unassailable: It can be hell to be Black…
