Oh, I also want to add that many people mistakenly tie white privilege to economics. I had a white Canadian tell me that I had no problems in the US because I was a successful black man there. Only someone who has spent his life benefitting from white privilege would make such a tone-deaf comment. Financial success isn’t everything. It doesn’t mean racism no longer affects you. So yes, a white person born in poverty will still enjoy white privilege because society will still view him and treat him differently.

Take this as an example: Imagine a group of white twentysomethings invading an abandoned building in NYC and squatting there while spending their days busking for money on the streets. In the eyes of many, they may be seen as hippies, counter-cultural. Their existence could be practically romanticized.

Now imagine a group of black twentysomethings doing the same thing…
