I'm a journalist who has been targeted by cancel culture, and it didn't shut me up. I just kept writing. The grand irony of your assertion that cancel culture is silencing important voices is that in the age of cancel culture, everyone can have a voice and a platform. It's the reason why you and I are communicating right now. High-paying journalism gigs are rare these days - even for writers who don't wade into divisive waters - so I'm not going to reserve my sympathy for the ones you cited. I just don't think we can act like we are entering an age of Soviet-style censorship where a wide array of voices can no longer be heard/read. No-one is owed a megaphone. We just have to work harder to be heard above the noise (and the tweets).
By the way, I really appreciate your debate style. You are firm but respectful. Thank you.
