I included the clip of Sheryl Lee Ralph's acceptance speech and excerpted it with specific intent. She's talking about pursuing a dream, whatever it is, and never letting go - whether you want to be a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer, or, yes, an actor. That's an important message, and it's why to me, her win was so important. It wasn't just about her winning an Emmy (which, as I pointed out, is not a matter of life and death), but the message she delivered when she won. Also, I don't know if you are familiar with the show, but it's a mockumentary-style sitcom that's set in a Philadelphia elementary school with predominantly Black students. It might be just entertainment (as you might say), but there's an important message there, an important message that could very well inspire future black lawyers and doctors and engineers. So yes, Sheryl Lee Ralph is indeed a queen, royalty not because she was born into it but because she earned it.
