I have tried my entire life not to be a person who sees racism in everything. I accept that sometimes things won’t go my way, that sometimes people won’t like me, and it will not have anything to do with my race. I was once having dinner with a White person in Cape Town, and at the end of the meal, he called out the waitress for racism because she put the bill between us but closer to him. He said she was racist for assuming he was paying. I said she was just a busy waitress who set down the bill where she set it down.
