I appreciate your point of view, Janine, but I, in turn, respectfully disagree with you. First of all, unless we are privy to what is going on inside her head, we do not know anything about what drives or motivates Meghan. It sounds like a lot of people have brought into the biased and, frankly, racist tabloid spin, which conveniently overlooks the charitable work Meghan and Harry do. Look, I don’t care whether she is a nice person or whether she is old enough to know better. That is irrelevant. Rich Black people do not forfeit the right to talk about their experiences with racism or feel depressed and suicidal because they have it better than poor Black people. If nothing else, I applaud Meghan for lifting up the rug and exposing the racism and White supremacy that the British royal family has been sweeping under it for centuries. Make no mistake, this is why people are so angry with her. It’s easier for so many White people to pretend racism is only racism if it carries a pitchfork and twirls its moustache than it is to accept that racism dwells in “good” society or in their own hearts. Those are the people this piece is about. I have no interest in judging Meghan’s character. That is between her and her conscience. I don’t see anything she has done as “playing the victim.” She did an interview. Oprah asked her questions, and she answered them honestly. People need to deal with her truth, whether they like her or not.
