Hold my purse while I unpack it!:) I mostly agree with your assessment of Hungarians, but the melancholy there is laced with aggression, which is especially evident in the apps. During the weeks I spent in Budapest last year, I spoke with a number of expats who had a similar impression. Aside from Slovenia and maybe Slovakia, I’ve noticed a certain melancholy in all of the Slavic and Balkan countries I’ve visited, but there have been subtle and not-so-subtle differences in each one. That said, I didn’t find the general population to be particularly friendly in Budapest, especially not in comparison to the former Yugoslavia countries. In fact, I often found them less so. Budapest has been second only to Belgrade in the number of racist comments I’ve received on Grindr.
I’ve actually heard very little about Trump anywhere in Eastern Europe, and if I mention him, people are less likely to offer any opinion than they were in Australia or in Asia. I guess they have their own issues to worry about, so they aren’t as concerned about American politics.
As for being treated like a piece of meat, I’m accustomed to that. It’s pretty much what you get when you deal with men, gay or straight. What frustrates me is the racial element. If you’re just looking for cock, fine. But when it becomes all about big BLACK cock, well, I’ll pass.
