Hi, Wanda. Have you read Jefferson’s book Notes on the State of Virgina? If you haven’t, I suggest you do. It might change how you view Jefferson in regards to his ideas about race. I appreciate Jefferson’s accomplishments in the political and intellectual realms, but even in his times, most Americans were not publishing books that contained extended musings on all the ways in which Blacks are inferior to Whites. Perhaps he had a change of heart before he died or even on his deathbed. I’m not sure. But Lincoln, for all his deluded thinking about race early on, evolved considerably, just like Obama did on the subject of marriage equality, and I respect the power of redemption through enlightenment.
