Hi, Oren. Thanks for your comment. Yes, I am aware of the restrictions preventing Israelis from entering Palestinian cities. While I understand the stakes and the danger you mention, I think the big difference here is that Jerusalem is claimed as a capital city by both Israel and the Palestinian Authority, so it is not quite the same as if it were any other Israeli city. I suspect the driver in my story would not have the same issue with restricted access to Haifa. Also, I don't think TSA checkpoints are a fair comparison, as everyone must comply with those. They don't apply only to a segment of the population. I'm fairly certain that if only black or brown people had to comply or were regularly singled out for special searches, there would be a lot of complaining, and it would be deafening.
