Hi, Jonathan. I appreciate your thoughtful response. I previously wrote an entire essay about this, and this disclaimer applies to every article I write about race. When I say "White people," "not all White people" is implied. I don’t know how much of my work you have read, but I have a lot of amazing White people in my life (my husband included), and I certainly don’t think of White people as a monolithic entity. My observations are not based on stereotypes. In other words, they are not secondhand. They are based on a lifetime of actual interactions in a society dominated by White people. I feel it is unnecessary at this point to specify "not all White people" after every single reference to White people just to ensure that certain readers won’t lose their shit because certain readers will always lose their shit. If this article doesn’t apply to you - and judging from your response, I suspect it doesn’t - I applaud you. Thanks for reading and taking the time to respectfully respond.
