Hi, Dennis. You are absolutely correct. I lived in Australia for years, and the racism there, though as evil and insidious as you say, is different, and it is more heavily weighted against different groups (Asians, indigenous Australians). Where Black Americans are concerned, the attitudes are similar to in Europe, where the anti-Black racism often comes in the form of creaky stereotypes and sexual objectification. There is a level of White supremacy against Black Americans, of course, but it's not nearly as in your face, as in America. I certainly never feared the police there the way I do here. I wrote a post for an Aussie publication about my one experience with the cops in Australia. It happened in Sydney, and I got a bit mouthy. The cop's response was firm but strangely patient and respectful. I'll have to repost that story here because I think it says a lot about the experience of being a Black American in Australia vs. being a Black American in America.
