Hi, Dave. You and I have the exact same approach. When it comes to opinions and issues, my goal is never to change another person’s mind. Like you, I realize most of us are too invested in being “right” to budge. Sometimes by hashing things out, I’m able to crystallize my POV even more and build on my original argument. And when I’m wrong, I’m OK admitting it. Being able to make concessions is part of playing the game — or it should be. I think your exit strategy is a good one. Unfortunately for me, when it gets to that point, I start feeling sullied and wish I’d never taken the bait in the first place. That is what happened with that commenter I mentioned in the piece. Oh well. You live and learn (hopefully).
